EMOTIONAL SOBRIETY WORKSHOP: Facing All Our Emotions on the Spiritual Path

With: Dr. Ingrid Clayton

Spiritual practices aim to connect us with higher realms of human nature. However, in doing so, we may be tempted to bypass difficult emotions like anger, fear, and sadness. We want to feel only the "good" emotions like joy, gratitude, and serenity.

But what if fully integrating our spiritual selves requires facing our whole emotional world with courage and mindfulness? Using her personal recovery journey and research insights, Dr. Clayton will explore how bypassing emotions can unwittingly reinforce old dysfunctional patterns.

This workshop is for anyone seeking an emotionally sober spirituality that honors the full spectrum of human experience. We’ll discuss:

* How spiritual bypassing works and how to recognize it in ourselves and others

* The risks and roots of bypassing emotions like healthy anger

* Skills for navigating intense feelings with wisdom and compassion

* Embracing our shared human journey with all its "highs" and "lows"

Rather than seeking a false state of perpetual happiness, true emotional sobriety allows all our feelings to ebb and flow. Spiritual maturity means engaging life’s challenges with genuineness, courage and an open heart.
